When one gets ill, the first thought many people tend to do is medicate themselves with a prescription or over-the-counter drugs to heal their ailment instead of seeking alternative and natural ways to combat your health issue. In Death By Medicine, Gary Null writes about the Lazarou Study, which analyzed records for prescribed medications for 33 million U.S. hospital admissions in the 1990s and discovered 2.2 million serious injuries due to prescribed drugs. 2.1% of inpatients experienced severe adverse drug reactions, 4.7% of all hospital admissions were due to a severe adverse drug reaction, and fatal adverse drug reactions occurred in 0.19% of inpatients and 0.13% of admissions. The authors estimated that 106,000 deaths occur annually due to adverse drug reactions". Those numbers have since increased. Scary, isn't it?
What does that mean? Instead of being quick to medicate yourself with prescription drugs that can cause adverse reactions to the body, even death, think of caring for yourself naturally, with food and nutritional supplements. Null writes, "the total number of deaths caused by conventional medicine is nearly 80,000 a year. It is now evident that the American medical system is the leading cause of death and injury in the U.S.". I know that sounds scary and horrific; that is why we must take care of our bodies and try to adopt a healthier eating lifestyle. Food is Medicine. Food is your body's greatest friend. It fuels us and keeps our inner internal organs and systems working correctly.
In my opinion, I believe that many of the diseases are a result of a bad diet. If one eats well, the body will Be well. In Eat to Live, Dr. Joel Fuhrman writes, " If we don't make significant changes in the foods we choose to consume, taking drugs prescribed by physicians will not improve our health or extend our lives. If we wish proper health protection, we need to remove the cause". To get to the cause, you must first go beyond the symptoms, seeking to cure the core. One can get to the center by learning to be attuned to their bodies, listen to the signals it conveys, and provide it with the necessary foods to bring to wellness.
